Beach Towel

By French Chef--Sunburn--Armbro Nesbit Foaled on April 26, 1987 at Paris, Kentucky
Trainer/Driver: Ray Remmen Owner: Uptown Stable (Seth Rosenthal, et al) Breeder: Stoner Creek Stud of new Canaan, CT
Beach Towel was a mere $22,000 yearling purchase who would go on to earn over $2.5 million during his two-year racing career. Both seasons were spectacular, but his sophomore campaign was definitely the most definitive of his talents.
Beach Towel began his three-year-old season by winning in 1:52.4 at Rosecroft Raceway. That began a six-race win-streak that ended with a disappointing finish in the North America Cup when he made an uncharacteristic break and finished ninth. However, he quickly rebounded t owin seven of his next eight starts, including The Meadowlands Pace, the American National, the Adios, the Prix d'Ete and the Hayes Memorial at DuQuoin, where he garnered his lifetime mark of 1:50.
In mid-season Beach Towel lost the Messenger Stake to Jake And Elwood and then bounced back to win five of his last six starts, including the Little Brown Jug (in straight heats), the Tattersalls and the Breeders Crown Sophomore Pace. He had no trouble nailing down Horse of the Year Honors for 1990.
Beach Towel retired from racing and headed to the breeding shed in 1991, spending nine season in New Jersey before being exported to New Zealand in 2000.
His top performers include: Jenna's Beach Boy p,4,1:47.4 ($1+), Beach Ray p,1:52.4f ($871,536) and Walk On The Beach p, 1:51.2 ($796,441).
