Artstanding Captures $175,000 NJSS

July 14, 2005

Artstanding flew down the stretch and nipped Western Ace at the wire to win by a nose in the $175,000 New Jersey Sire Stakes Final for two-year-old pacing colts and geldings Thursday night at the Meadowlands. Mike Lachance drove Artstanding to his first career victory, in his second start, pacing the mile in 1:52.2. Karbonator was two and three quarters of a length back in third.

“He got a perfect trip tonight,” Lachance said. “He has been a good colt every time I have sat behind him. He is well bred and has a beautiful long gait.”

“I am very happy,” trainer Tom Fanning said. “I didn’t know he could go that fast at this point in his career. He is a nice horse. He has always acted like a nice horse and I am just real happy. He has the Niatross [July 21 at the Meadowlands] next.”

A $35,000 yearling purchase, the colt has now banked $99,187 for James Swilyk of Summit, New Jersey and Bob Gorney of Jackson, New Jersey.
