Peaceful Way Nabs Armbro Flight Elim
June 24, 2006
Peaceful Way and driver Trevor Ritchie won the $50,000 Armbro Flight elimination Saturday at Mohawk, as the sensational mare stopped the clock in 1:52.2, just one-fifth of a second off her Mohawk and Canadian record time.
The five-year-old daughter of Angus Hall sat fourth at the :27.2 quarter pole before Ritchie pulled her first up and cleared to the lead prior to the :56.2 half-mile marker. The bay reached the three-quarters call in 1:25.1 and trotted home in :27.1 for the 2½-length tally, the 29th of her career.
Ecstatic who had left early with driver David Miller, finished second, with Mystical Sunshine and driver Paul MacDonell third, beaten 3¾ lengths.
“She’s quite a little girl and she can go a hundred miles an hour,” said Ritchie, who was in rein to the mare for co-owning trainer David Tingley. “Tonight, things went a little smoother for her than last week. She just came off of the final turn, kicked in and did the job.”
Peaceful Way now has $2,452,310 in career earnings and should be the favorite for the July 1 $347,250 final. The draw for the final was conducted in the paddock after the elim. With the victory, Peaceful Way’s connections were able to select her post position for the final, and they chose the five-hole. Here is the field for the final: 1–Mystical Sunshine 2–Ticket To Glide 3–Three Little Words 4–Godess Of Chaos 5–Peaceful Way 6–Ecstatic 7–The Great Pacific 8–Snazzy Millie 9–Spicegirl Kosmos 10–Averynattiegirl
