Alma Sheppard

In the early days of harness racing in  the United States, the powerful Hanover Shoe Farm was owned and operated by Lawrene and Charlotte Sheppard.  In 1937 their 11-year-old daughter Alma set a world record as a woman driver when she piloted the couple's top trotter, Dean Hanover to a clocking of 1:58 and 1/2 for the mile.
