Changes in Adios Day Program

July 20, 2007

The Meadows today announced that its two cards on Adios Day, Saturday, Aug. 11, will begin at 12:00 noon and 7:00 p.m., in each case an hour earlier than originally scheduled. John Marshall, vice president and general manager for The Meadows racing, said the earlier post times will better accommodate the large crowds expected for both programs.

“We have so many activities planned that advancing the post times will better serve our customers,” he said. “The earlier starts will allow families, always the backbone of Adios Day, to participate in all the festivities, enjoy great racing and get home at a decent hour.”

The centerpiece of Adios Day, of course, is the 41st edition of the Coors Delvin Miller Adios for harness racing's best 3-year-old colts. This year, the “Pace for the Orchids” will offer a purse estimated at $450,000.

Joining the Adios on the afternoon card are the $150,000 Adioo Volo for 3-year-old filly pacers and the $100,000 Gov. David L. Lawrence pace for freshman colts. Combined, those stakes will make Saturday's daylight program one of the most powerful ever offered by The Meadows.

The day's festivities include drawings for an expense-paid Las Vegas getaway and a free trailer as well as a “Meadows Trivia Contest.” This also will be the initial Adios in the track's casino era.

Following Saturday's evening card, live racing at The Meadows will go on a two-month hiatus while the track's 44-year-old grandstand makes way for a permanent racino. To memorialize the event, The Meadows will distribute a commemorative coin to fans after the evening's fifth race. The keepsake will bear the likeness of the grandstand.
