Crawdad Takes Four Leaf Clover

March 24, 2007

It was a one-two finish for trainer Erv Miller in Saturday's $121,300 Four Leaf Clover Final at the Meadowlands as Crawdad edged out stablemate Western Shore in 1:50. Crawdad, who was an off-the-pace winner in round two of the series, was put on the front early tonight by driver Andy Miller and led all the way through splits of :28.2, :55.4 and 1:23. As the field turned for home, the only one to take a shot at him was Western Shore but he proved no match, falling short by three-quarters of a length. It was another two lengths back to Real Mean Art who finished third.

"Everybody was just easing out of there and I just let him pace forward out of the gate," said Andy Miller. "I thought I'd be first or second-over and the way the race unfolded, he ended up on the front. I knew it'd be a tussle to the wire [with Western Shore], but that's the way it goes. It was a huge, huge effort."

The victory was the sixth already this season in 10 starts for the four-year-old gelded son of Arts Conquest - Smiling Fantasy and elevated his earnings to more than $168,000 for the Red Barn Stable of Morrison, Il.
